Thank Heaven For Little Girls...

I am a news junky. In one way it's good. I am well informed. Therefore, I can hold my own in an intellectual political debate. But, in another way it's a pain in my neck. I live 40 miles from the White House. National news is my local news. Route 4 starts in St. Mary's County, MD and winds it's way through Calvert and Prince George's County. When MD Route 4 meets the Washington, DC line it suddenly turns into Pennsylvania Avenue.

I get up every morning at 4:30AM. This is my routine. First I feed the cat, then I turn on the coffee, then I call my husband, who opens his business every morning at 3:00AM. By the time we have had our morning chat the coffee is done. Then I head for "the horse" which is what I call my bike. With coffee in hand, the TV on, I pedal for the next 45-60 minutes. During that time, I watch the re-run from the night before of Anderson 360, the first glum bust of CNBC, and finally the first headlines of American Morning. In that short period of time, I find out how much the world has changed in the last 24 hours. Usually, the new dawn presents a bleak view of a new day on planet earth.

Then, I head off to my job where I manage a federal supplemental food program. My mind is spinning with what is going on Pakistan, (holy mackerel!) torture techniques of the US Government, little girls being sold by their fathers, and Afghan women who deliver their children in filth. WOW! This is too much information. I am beginning to acknowledge that I really do not like REAL TIME, I-REPORT, TWITTER!

As I drive home from work, my mind is still reeling from the father/daughter story of this morning. When I slow down to enjoy the single hour that I have un-busy, I turn on my computer. Suddenly, magic happens. Poof, the ugly of another earth day disappears...completely. My hope is renewed in humanity just by looking at two photos. THANK HEAVEN FOR LITTLE GIRLS!

Tulips and Sunflowers....

Maryland is beautiful especially in the Spring. Nothing is more wonderful to watch than the swans returning to St. Mary's River, the osprey returning to their lifelong mates and glorious blooming tulips. I have never seen a tulip in Montana. Although, I do know that Montana sunflowers bloom bright and grow big.

This year, I am paying special attention to MD's colorful reawakening from Winter. Next Spring I may be in Montana. Ahhh, it's going to be difficult to say good-bye to tulips!
