Other than Dr. Seigle, I was the first person to see Kaelyn's face. Of course, this was due to my position at the time of her birth. I remember she was born with her beautiful eyes open. As she rotated to the right to allow her shoulders through she just looked at me. Actually, she stared at me. From that moment, Kaelyn has demonstrated a personality that is far beyond her years. She was alert from her very first moment of life. Within her first hour of life, she nursed, took a bath, looked around her world, met her parents and stole the heart of her Gma. When I held Kaelyn for the first time she looked at me intensely. I know that the newborn human infant does not have good eyesight, but with Kaelyn, I couldn't believe it. Even though her eyes were glazed from protective ointment applied after birth, Kaelyn looked around her world with interest.
During her first few weeks of life, Kaelyn was tracking. She followed with her eyes. When you spoke her eyes seem to give understanding. She watched her sister Adalyne play and gave evidence that she knew the difference between each person who held her by the position in which she placed her body. At 6 weeks, she was looking at her world giving the impression that she was asking, "What is this and what are you doing?"

I remember telling my Mother that I thought Kaelyn seemed "mature." It was almost as though she were an older child in an infants body. To me, she was astoundingly alert and stunningly beautiful. From the very first, Kaelyn knew what she wanted. She immediately found the favored breast, the thumb she enjoyed, and the position she liked to sleep. She almost seemed "pre-wired" to the world in which she was born.
When Kaelyn was about 2 months old she moved with her family to AZ. I didn't see her again until she was two. It was Christmas, 2007 before I could make my first trip to AZ. By then, Maya had been born, Addy was in pre-school and Kaelyn was......Kaelyn. She ran to my arms as though she really remembered who I was. She was excited to see me and immediately wanted to give me a tour of her AZ house. She wanted to show me everything, her room, her toys, her favorite doll Manda, her clothes, and....her new sister, Maya or "My-My.
Even though my visit was 4 short days, I learned so much from Kaelyn. She just knew everything. I watched as she whipped out the kitchen garbage, replaced the plastic bag expertly, and then haul it to it's proper place in the garage. She knew everything that Maya seemed to want. She was able to interpret almost every expression on Maya's face. "She's hungry, She's wet, She wants to nurse, She's tired, or She doesn't like that!" Kaelyn could diaper expertly and was able to comfort her sister's with ease. She danced, sang, talked and "worked" non-stop. She was a whirlwind every minute she was awake. She knew exactly where to put all the folded laundry. Whenever I asked "Where is this or that?" Kaelyn would answer, "Me get it or Me do it." All of this and she was barely two years old.
Kaelyn approaches the world with enthusiasm, optimism, and determination. Kaelyn is amazing. When I look into her deep brown eyes, it is as though I am looking into another world. She has a depth to her personality that is a rare find in an adult let alone a child. She has pure faith in Jesus. She prays with feelings far beyond her years. She absolutely believes that Jesus can solve any problem stating, "Me can't do it, but Jesus can. Me can't fix it, but Jesus can. Don't cry, Jesus loves you."
I made my second visit to AZ in the last part of April, 2008. On May 2, Maya celebrated her first birthday and on that same day, I was baptised into the arms of Christ. I was baptised at CCV in what I determined to be very cold water. After my baptism, Kaelyn met me with a towel stating, "Me make you warm, Me make you warm." I remember looking at this little bit of a girl and thinking, Kaelyn what secrets do you know? What is it that you know about Jesus that I don't? I remember thinking these thoughts as Kaelyn looked at me, tilted her head and said, "Me know Jesus."
Kaelyn knows Jesus in a way that I never will. She knows him as only a faithful child can. She talks to Him with pleasant easy conversation. She prays like she is talking to a dear friend whom she visits daily. Kaelyn offers me an untold surprise with every smile, or glance, or picture. Kaelyn is an active part of a world that as a Grandmother, I am still striving to learn about.
Kaelyn is a pure glimpse of Heaven on earth. I believe, the Holy Spirit is inspiring children to clearly hear the words of the Father. As adults, we should all take heed. For in Matthew 18:3 Jesus says, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like a little child, you will never enter in to the kingdom of heaven." In Luke 18:17 Jesus says, Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." Isaiah 11:6 emphatically states, "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them."
This is Kaelyn. Unlike many adults, she listens to the words of Jesus and believes. Simply put, this is Kaelyn's secret. She not only knows Jesus, but she is His personal friend. Kaelyn is my blessing. xoxoxox
